Michele Sclafani

After earning a PhD in experimental quantum mechanics in Vienna, Michele decided it was time to really make something of his life—so he became an illustrator.

Originally from Palermo, he is currently based in Barcelona, where he traded the lab for a vibrant creative landscape, immersing himself in a community of extraordinary illustrators and artists. As if becoming an illustrator weren’t challenging enough, his colorblindness often leads him to a more nuanced use of color. Michele now uses illustration to talk about science and science to solve the mysteries of illustration. His playful approach to ‘illustrated science’ even earned him the XXI Premis Junceda in the Scientific Category from the Catalan Professional Illustration Association (APIC).

When he’s not busy challenging the confines of traditional scientific illustration, he enjoys distilling complex ideas into narratives that might just make you laugh—or at least raise an eyebrow.
